1.0 Longspan Shelving

Longspan shelving units are the ultimate storage solution - they look great and they're ideal for garage storage.

Our high quality garage shelves are reliable, versatile and ideal for storing:

  • Plastic tubs, pots, buckets, cartons and archive boxes
  • Car roof-top luggage boxes
  • Sports equipment and fitness gear
  • Camping gear
  • Toys
  • Car repair and maintenance gear
  • Beach and surf gear
  • Power tools and spare parts
  • Garden tools and maintenance equipment
  • Miscellaneous heavy items of irregular size and shape.

Long span shelving is open, so it’s easy to see what’s there. It’s also efficient in terms of access and space utilization, as there aren’t any doors to open.

1.1 Standard Duty Longspan

Our Standard Duty long span range is powder coated in white, which is a neutral colour that will fit into most situations. There are two shelving unit sizes:

  • 1.5mWx0.5mDx2.0mH, 120Kg/ level
  • 2.0mWx0.6mDx2.0mH, 200Kg/ level

These shelving units are designed for light to medium duty storage and are popular for storing cartons, tubs and miscellaneous items.

1.2 Heavy Duty Longspan

Our Heavy Duty long span range is tri-coloured (orange/ white/ blue) and is rated to a load rating of 300Kg/ level. It comes in a comprehensive range of sizes, as shown in the table below. So the units can be mix-n-matched to fit any sized space.

Width 2.0m High 2.4m High  2.7m High
1.0m
1.5m
2.0m
2.5m

Each shelving unit is built for heavy duty use and will handle just about anything you are likely to store in a garage, apart from the heaviest engine components. We also have two lower weight-rated units in the heavy duty range (see below):

  • 1.0mWx0.5mDx2.0mH, 150Kg/L
  • 1.5mWx0.5mDx2.0mH, 150Kg/L

They complement the 300Kg load rating units and are often used for lighter storage situations. They are similarly tri-coloured, so they can be easily co-ordinated with the 300kg/L units.

How deep should garage shelves be? 50cm is OK for smaller items, however, a depth of 60cm provides flexibility and is ideal for more bulky items.

    2.0 Workbenches

Our workbenches are made from all steel and are part of our 300Kg/L, Heavy Duty range. They can be used separately or connected into a row with other workbenches or with other longspan shelving units in the range. The workbenches are 0.95m high and come in widths of 1.0m, 1.5m, 2.0m and 2.5m.

    3.0 Tyre Racking

Our tyre racks are also part of our 300Kg/L, Heavy Duty range and they come in all the same sizes. They are a great addition for your garage, if you have a set of spare or seasonal tyres on their rims.

Benefits of Our Range of Garage Shelving

We have a broad range of shelving to help you organize your garage, shed or workshop. They come in a range of different sizes, load ratings and finishes to match the look and needs of your storage area. So you can easily customize your storage to suit your requirements.

Strong and Durable So Your Investment Will Last

All the garage shelving in our range is made from quality steel and powder coated for long-term durability. The powder coating provides long lasting resistance to rust, so your shelving will continue to look clean and professional for many years.

    Easy Installation

Our long span shelving units are designed for strength and ease of assembly. The side supports or uprights come as a single, pre-welded piece for extra rigidity and strength. The shelves or decks are also braced underneath for extra strength.

There are no tools required for assembly. The cross beams simply slot into “butterfly-shaped” grooves on the outside of the uprights. The shelving decks then simply slide onto a grooved ledge on the inside of the beams. So the shelves are easy to setup and adjust up and down.

    Easily Reconfigurable

Being easy to assemble means our garage shelving is also easy to disassemble and reconfigure as required. This makes the units easy to adjust as your storage needs change or to transport and reconfigure if you need to move. Our range of long span shelving can change as your shelving needs change.

You can specify the number of shelves per bay and also adjust each shelf level up and down to accommodate the various sized items you are looking to store. This lets you optimise your storage space, as the gaps between shelves don't all have to be the same – you can have a large gap for heavy, bulky items at the bottom and then smaller spaces between the shelves above.

    Buy Extra Components as Needed

If you need some addon units to extend your row of garage shelves or some extra beams or an additional upright that’s not a problem. We sell extra shelf kits and individual component parts as well as our standard 4-shelf units. Think of our shelving like a construction set and build whatever you need – a single unit with two shelves or 5+ shelves in a long row - it’s easy.

Units can be fastened to the Floor

All our garage shelves are generally sturdy on a flat, even surface. However, for increased safety, they come with footplates that have predrilled holes in them. This allows each shelving unit to be fastened to the floor. It’s especially useful if the floor is uneven, or if the shelves are located in high traffic areas or when you are storing heavy items high off the ground.

    Warranty

Falcon Shelving offers a three year replacement warranty for manufacturing or material defects in any of its products. However, we don’t usually hear from our clients unless they are looking to buy extra shelves or extra units.

What Sort of Shelving is Ideal for Garages

How do you design the optimal storage solution for your specific garage? There's no one best solution to that question. It's a matter determining the space available and what needs to be stored and then matching those requirements with quality shelving, cabinets etc with the correct load rating.

Set out below are 4 simple steps that will help you choose the best storage solution for your needs.

4 Simple Steps to Work Out Your Garage Storage Needs

If you have a simple storage problem you can just think through the steps, but if you are looking at a major re-organisation, then try and work through each step in turn.

    1) Declutter

Take a day or a weekend to go through absolutely everything (including those boxes you didn’t unpack when you moved in). Make three piles: 1) Keep, 2) Sell/ Donate and 3) Throw Out. Then get rid of those things you don’t ever use and will never need.

    2) Sort Everything You Are Keeping Into Broad Categories

Pull everything you are keeping out of the garage and group similar items together. Place tools with tools and so on. You may end up with tidy categories like: car supplies, tools, hardware, toys, exercise equipment, boxes of old clothes, books, sporting equipment, camping gear, gardening, seasonal decorations, spare and seasonal tyres etc.

Grouping like items together will make them easier to find in the garage and will also give you an idea of the space needed to store each category of items.

Also getting everything out of the garage will give you a chance to give the space a quick clean and tidy up.

    3) Plan Out the Best Way to Store Your Collection

Sketch out the floor-plan and walls of the garage and then begin to plan out how you want to store your various categories of items. Calculate how much space your car will take. Allow some additional space for access and movement. Then plan your storage in the space remaining. In this way you can create the perfect layout and means of storage for the specific items that you have in your garage.

There are two main principles to follow, when determining the best garage layout: Firstly, use as much of the vertical space in the garage as possible. Think about using: high shelving, shallow tall cabinets, hooks for hanging items on the wall, rafters for storing long items, and over-bonnet storage to maximize space utilisation.

Secondly, create separate zones for each of the major categories in your collection of items. For example, garden tools in one area, sports equipment in another and tools hung on a pegboard next to a workbench etc. Once you have the major zones in place, you can work out from there.

Here are some tips to think about, when you are creating your garage storage plan:

    • If your collection contains large equipment, make this the first zone you confirm
    • Locate frequently used items near to the door and locate rarely used items in the hardest to reach spots.
    • Consider putting bulky equipment in a corner, so it’s out of the way
    • Locate items you use together close to one another.
    • Make sure you have easy access via the entryways and that there is enough space for you to work and move around once the car is parked inside
    • Pegboards and slatwall organizers are good for hanging items on the wall
    • Tools, ladders and bikes can be hung on the wall
    • Make sure dangerous items (chemicals, tools) are stored in a locked cabinet, if children are in the household
    • Keep things off the floor – it frees up room and makes it easy to clean and tidy underneath
    • Consider a clothes rack for umbrellas, raincoats and wetsuits etc
    • Overhead storage is good for long items or those you only need at certain times of the year.
    • Storage containers, tubs and baskets are useful for storing loose items and let you dispose of the packaging
    • Rolling or portable storage can be useful to help maximize space utilisation
    • Consider repurposing old furniture and trunks for use in the garage.

    4) Invest in Additional Storage and Containers

Once you have worked through the above three steps you should have a good idea of the shelving, workbenches, tyre racking, cabinets, hanging devices and storage containers you will need for your specific garage. Some basic items like these can transform how your garage looks and functions. Choosing the storage solutions that make sense for your unique requirements is the key. When you are ready, we've got what you need to keep your garage clean and organised.

    Applications and Uses

Long-term Storage When You Don't Need Pallet Racking

As the name suggests, long span shelving is steel shelving that spans a long distance (typically from 1 to 2.5 metres). It is designed for the long-term storage of items that don’t require the rugged, heavy duty storage capacity of pallet racking that is needed to store very heavy items and withstand mechanical handling.

Perfect Solution for Small to Medium Weight Items that are Hand Loaded

The open nature of heavy duty, long span shelving and its adjustability makes it one of the most efficient storage systems for items that are: small to medium in size and weight, bulky, fragile or irregular in shape, long and broad, and that can be loaded onto the shelves by hand. It also provides easy to access to stored items from both sides.

    Store Just about Anything

Our adjustable, long span shelving units are the perfect solution for storing: cartons, plastic tubs, component parts used for manufacturing, automotive and other spare parts, tools, toolboxes, electrical equipment, plumbing equipment, sporting equipment, hardware, bulky goods, inventory items and archive storage.

Full Range of Sizes to Accommodate Any Situation

Our long span shelving comes in a full range of weight capacities, colours and sizes that will suit almost any heavy duty storage situation (see table below).

    Compatible Workbench

    # The 1200 KG range comes with compatible workbenches that are 0.95m High, 0.6m Deep and come in all widths (see image below).

    Heavy duty workbench
They are suitable for heavy duty use. Each shelf on the workbench can carry 300Kg as an evenly distributed load.

    Modular System

Our heavy duty, long span shelving units are modular, so you can buy one unit on its own or buy a series of units to scale up to the storage capacity of a warehouse. All the units within a particular weight capacity are connectable, so you can join a series of shelving units into a connected row of shelving. This connectability also applies to the heavy duty workbenches in our 1200Kg range, which can be joined directly to a normal, long span shelving unit. Contact our friendly staff to discuss your requirements

Benefits of Our Long Span Shelving Units

Strong and Durable So Your Investment Will Last

The component parts of our long span shelving units are constructed from welded steel and are powder coated for durability. Rather than being MDFm the shelves or decks are powder coated steel that is reinforced underneath for extra strength. The uprights come as one, solid pre-welded piece for maximum load bearing.

    Easy Installation

Our heavy duty, long span shelving units are “boltless” and are designed to be DIY assembled easily without tools, screws, nuts or bolts. The orange beams slide into grooves on the outside of the blue uprights and the white decks simply slot onto a ledge on the inside of the beams.

    Easily Reconfigurable

Long span shelving is very long lasting and can be added to and reconfigured throughout it's life, as your storage needs change.

    Easy to Extend and Disassemble

Being easy to assemble means our heavy duty shelving units are also easy to disassemble and reconfigure as required. This makes the units easy to adjust as your shelving needs change or to transport and reconfigure if you need to move.

    Adjustable Shelving

You can specify the number of shelves per bay and also adjust each shelf level up and down to accommodate the various sized items you are looking to store. This lets you optimise your storage space, as the gaps between each shelf don't all have to be the same. Having adjustable shelving means you can have a large gap for bulky, heavier items at the bottom and then a smaller space between the shelves above.

    Buy Extra Components as Needed

Our heavy duty, long span shelving is modular, so you can buy whatever you need to expand your storage area, whether it is a single upright or an entire row of shelving. This means as your storage needs change you can always get what you need to reconfigure your shelving.

Units Can be Fastened to the Floor

Our shelving units are sturdy, when free standing. However they can also be fastened to the floor via the pre-drilled holes in the footplates for extra stability, safety and security.

    Warranty

Falcon Shelving offers a three year replacement warranty for manufacturing or material defects in any of its products. This warranty does not cover fair wear and tear.

    Example Warehouse Fitout

As an example, we helped a client, who was fitting out a new storage warehouse. Starting with a hand-drawn sketch, we began to draw up a floorplan of the warehouse.

     Fitout plan for a warehouse

From the initial plan there were several iterations of changes as we went back and forth with discussions and ideas. The above diagram reflects the final configuration from which we created a list of components required and then a quotation for the job,

    Example Shipping Container Fitout

Our 1200Kg (300Kg/ level) range of heavy duty, long span shelving fits neatly into shipping containers, as a means of creating extra, heavy duty storage capacity.

As you can see in the example above, there is very little wasted space in the fitout.
